Energy

In its vapor or liquid state, water is the most widely used heat transfer medium in industry owing to its easy access and interesting thermal properties (high heat capacity and latent heat of vaporization).

Water quality is of utmost importance whether it is used to transfer heat, for heating or cooling, or used in turbines to produce electricity.

Without treatment, it causes fouling, scaling or corrosion in thermal systems and thus reduces the energy performance and the overall good operation of the equipment. Therefore, we recommended having a water treatment plant upstream to eliminate suspended solids, scale-forming ions (calcium and magnesium) or naturally present metals (particularly iron) and silica.

Steam generation

Used as steam to produce electricity, boiler feedwater must be treated to reduce the risk of priming or the addition of silica in the networks. Depending on boiler pressure and temperature, demineralized water with a conductivity of less than 1 µS/cm (1 MΩ) or even less than 0.1 µS/cm (10 MΩ) may be required.

The previously filtered and softened water can be purified by reverse osmosis and electro-deionization to the desired quality.
