Elmatec designs and manufactures turnkey reverse osmosis units to address your specific problems or requirements.
Osmosis is a natural phenomenon in which a « pure » solution naturally passes through a semi-permeable membrane to dilute a « concentrated » solution of mineral salts. The osmotic pressure corresponds to the balance between the two compartments.
Reverse osmosis involves applying pressure to the salt water compartment to force water through the semipermeable membrane to produce purified water. For this water to pass through the membrane, the pressure applied must be higher than the osmotic pressure, which is directly related to the salt concentration of the water to be treated.
Reverse osmosis is a membrane process separation by tangential flow filtration. Reverse osmosis membranes have a spiral construction. The purified water is recovered through the perforated central tube.
To improve permeate quality, it is possible to reprocess the permeate from the first pass through a second pass. Elmatec proposes double-pass reverse osmosis units, also referred to as bi-osmosis units.
Unlike resin demineralisation units, the reverse osmosis process allows for continuous operation as there is no regeneration phase. The use of chemicals is limited, thus reducing the risks associated with the handling and storage of chemicals.
